Tips for creating a great indoor teambuilding experience
A meeting room or warehouse is not often the most exciting and energizing place to be, but it is nevertheless often among the options available when team activities need to be pulled indoors in winter or for other reasons.
Here we list 5 tips for creating an energetic and great team building activity indoors:
- Move away from the everyday setting – get out of your typical office or workspace. When the setting changes, you awaken new centers of attention in your participants, and their curiosity and desire to get involved is strengthened.
- Away with PCs and phones – Especially if you stay at your own company address or have had a work seminar where PCs and phones have been involved, there is “always” something that needs to be done that takes focus away from the community experience that team building should be. Get rid of them!
- Create a universe and storytelling – Use your imagination and create a storytelling and experiential universe. It can be done with simple means and props/decorations. And it works – because it also stimulates the participants’ curiosity and engagement.
- Mix across daily relationships – When you divide into teams, make sure to mix up the participants so that the typical daily bonds and relationships are challenged. It strengthens the community when you laugh and fight together with new people.
- If you’re a leader, keep a low profile – perhaps a given for some. But we say it anyway. If you are a leader, remember that your role and your person is also a status in the informal team building setting… so let others fill in before you necessarily take the baton yourself. But have fun and enjoy yourself – it can also be felt.

What is team building?
